Originally built by EvoSwitch, Iron Mountain's AMS-1 campus is one of the largest carbon-neutral multitenant data centers in the Netherlands. Purpose-built from concrete and steel, the site has containerized modular suites to support a PUE of 1.2.
The Two-story Tier III+ building has over 12,000 m² (108,000 sq feet) of raised floor space with room to expand to 40,000 square meters. Power can also be expanded to 60 Megawatts.
In 2017, Equinix opened AM4, an eight story datacenter constructed next to AM3 in Science Park. When fully built out AM4 will have 124,000 sq ft (11,500 sq m) of usable floor space.
Global Switch Amsterdam is located in the Slotevaart/Overtoomseveld district, adjacent to the main Dutch cable infrastructure. The site is 2km from the financial district and city center.
The 11 story, 72m-tall building has 5,000 sq m (54,000 sq ft) of data space on 13 floors, and 9MW of power. The building uses outside air and groundwater for cooling, and also stores warm water underground.
Amsterdam is one of the largest world’s largest data center markets and part of the FLAP data center market (Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam, Paris). An open business environment coupled with excellent network connectivity have fueled an acceleration of data center deployments in Amsterdam.
The Netherlands has benefited from the presence of AMS-IX (Amsterdam Internet Exchange), one of the world’s largest Internet Exchanges (IXP), and the landing of 11 transatlantic subsea cables.
Similar to London, the success of the incumbent Internet Exchange, AMS-IX, has given the ability for networks to choose where to colocate. As a result, there are more than a handful of Telecom Hotels in Amsterdam.
